College Mentor

The college and career readiness program helps students transition from high school to young adulthood. Whether students are planning for college, the military or a career, our program aims to help them plan for those goals. The college and career readiness program  is especially targeted to first generation college going students, but all are welcome.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Complete the 2 hour training
  2. Be present for in-person or virtual sessions with the student (typically 1 hour long; more frequently in the fall, less frequently in the spring)
  3. Establish rapport and build connections with your students
  4. Keep a record of your students’ progress, questions, needs.
  5. Facilitate a “research and plan first” mindset
  6. Be open and willing to share your own experiences.
  7. Be dedicated to your student’s unique career goals. 

Requirements

College mentors need to have attended college – strong preference for 1st generation college graduates; must be able to meet with irregular schedules (in the fall your student will need you more than in the spring); must be able to pass a background check; must be a full year commitment; attend 2 hour training before meeting with a student.
